It's the thing that is quickly becoming an LSU folklore. Many years from now, lots of LSU alumni will be telling their grandchildren about how one particular possum became a vital part in why their 2016 baseball team won lots of games. Just like Mike the Tiger and Death Valley on a Saturday night, the rally possum is feared, and it is very dangerous.
It all started on May 7, 2016, on a warm evening at Alex Box Stadium. Our Tigers were playing unranked Arkansas, and to be completely honest, the Razorbacks dominated for almost the entire game. After four innings, Arkansas led 9-0. Many frustrated Tiger fans left the Box early, with no sign of optimism that their team was going to make a late comeback. But things were looking better for the Tigers. Heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, LSU trailed 9-4. And just when you think that things couldn't get any better for the Tigers, they actually did.
This adorable possum made its way into the outfield and evaded opposing Razorback players. The whole possum fiasco sent the game into a short delay, and when the game was resumed, the Tigers were steamrolling. LSU scored four runs on three hits in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the game at nine, and the Razorbacks committed two errors, which sent the game into an extra inning. To put the icing on the cake, outfielder Jake Fraley scored from third base, which secured the 10-9 series-clinching victory for the Tigers.
Since the rally possum, LSU has won their last 10 games. The rally possum has been so popular around town that it even has its own form of clothing apparel. The photo above shows second baseman Cole Freeman rocking a rally possum shirt during the Tigers' road series against Tennessee in Knoxville. Looking good, Cole!
The rally possum even has its own Twitter account, and it already has over 2,000 followers. Here is one of its tweets:

After the Tigers face top-ranked Florida at home, they will head to Hoover, Alabama, for the SEC tournament, which starts on Tuesday. The road to Omaha is going to be a tough one, but our Tigers are now more determined than ever.
