When my mother first introduced me to Pinterest, I figured it was a new fad that “moms” were obsessed with that would soon subside like everything else. Pinterest has become one of the most popular and most useful current social media sites. Since Pinterest’s inception in 2010, it’s use and popularity has risen exponentially. I eventually joined the growing movement of Pinterest and became an avid “pinner.” Pinterest has changed millions of individual's lives in more ways than one could have ever predicted. Pinterest has grown exponentially with 70 million users; 79% of users being female, while 88% of them actually purchase a product that they pinned. Almost thirty billion pins were generated by mid 2014. Over 80% of pins are re-pins versus the 1.4% of tweets that are retweeted on Twitter. I think most would agree with me when I say that Pinterest has changed my life. Pinterest promotes businesses and lifestyles, and here are the 5 reasons why Pinterest has transformed my life

1. Healthy Lifestyle

I can honestly say that every new innovative workout or healthy interesting dish that pops up on my Pinterest is something that I re-pin immediately. I have made multiple dishes and tried multiple workouts all because of Pinterest, which makes me feel a lot less guilty for being on social media as long as I am every single day. I can honestly say that being on Pinterest makes me feel at least a little productive.

2. Creativity

Pinterest has definitely inspired me in more ways than I could have ever imagined. Some of the things I see on Pinterest absolutely blow my mind because of the fact that I never could have imagined some of the creative ideas that are pinned. There are so many interesting people in this world and having their minds all come together on one social media site is extremely ideal.

3. Cost effectiveness

The amount of ‘Do It Yourself’ projects that I have attempted because of Pinterest is intense. Granted, some of the tasks definitely don’t turn out as perfect as the ones that are on my DIY board, but I still always have fun doing them, and I always end up saving money in the long run. There are also so many pins about budgeting and planning that give me countless ideas every day. I create wishlists and waitlists because I always tend to overspend on new trends that end up being a lot cheaper two months down the road. I always pin new meal ideas using ingredients I already have at home so I have no need go spend $20 on groceries for a single meal. I think this may be the most beneficial thing about Pinterest to me because I know I am always stressing out about money, and to casually be scrolling through a social media site and find new ways to be innovative is extremely constructive.

4. Positivity

Pinterest is filled with numerous amounts of quotes, pictures, ideas, and blogs all about positivity and how important it is to be positive. There are so many inspirational pins that make me want to be better every single day. I always seem to be in a better mood after finishing a workout I found on Pinterest, adding quotes to my inspiration board, or finishing a DIY project that actually turned out! Saving money always seems to keep me in a better mood as well, believe it or not.

5. Helped my relationships

My personal relationships have definitely benefited from Pinterest. I tend to do more projects that I have found from Pinterest with my mom or my sister. Baking and cooking new meals brings our family closer every day. I have found a countless amount of ideas that I can always use to have a fun night with the girls or put together an entire weekend get away. I could even plan an entire wedding in only one night of Pinterest binging.

For me, Pinterest has changed my life in the simplest of ways, yet I still find this social media site extremely important. Pinterest can promote peoples’ businesses, create jobs for people, and even encourage people to change their life in ways some could never imagine. Pinterest continues to strive every single day, and it’s not just a fad for moms!

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
