It is something we have all thought about at one point or another during the course of our lives. As college students, we have only scraped the surface of what it means to go out and experience new and exciting things. The fact of the matter is, we only have a limited amount of time to do so. This leads to us coming up with both major and minor challenges and feats to overcome with the time that we are allowed. In doing so, we generate a list; a bucket list.

The idea of creating a to-do list, or bucket list is that it can be never ending. At least that is how I perceive bucket lists to be. For instance, there were many things that I thought about accomplishing as a child. Once I managed to accomplish them, I began coming up with new ideas.

There is no fun in completing everything you ever wanted to do with so much time left to spare and feeling like there is no longer a path in front of you. For as long as I can remember, I have been coming up with various challenges for myself. Some of them have already been completed, while others will take much longer. I plan to add ideas to my bucket list for the rest of my life. When all is said and done; when I am old, gray, and out of ideas, then my next challenge will be to think of something new. See, there is always something you can do to expand your horizons and create an even more purposeful life.

Bucket list items are not always seemingly impossible and major events or ideas. One of the items on my bucket list includes one day moving in with my girlfriend, getting married, and having kids. Another item is finishing school and starting a career. This means that another item on the list is making sure that my career and a personal life can coexist effectively. Bucket list items are not always exquisite extracurriculars that separate you from everyday life. They can be used as milestones to help you obtain a path and stay on it. Now, this is not to say that I do not have some major items on this list.

One of my biggest bucket list items is to visit every Major League Baseball stadium in the US. I have seen a few, Wrigley Field in Chicago being a favorite of mine. Another big bucket list item is to eat at a genuine Italian restaurant in Italy. I am a major fan of Italian restaurants and I a firm believer that eating Italian food in Italy would be quite the experience.

A bucket list is more than just a list. It helps you to define where you want to go in life and who you want to be. You either let your world define you in a confined space, or you go out and make your own definition. I know that it seems extreme, but really take into consideration all of the things you have wanted to do your whole life and reflect on them. Have you accomplished them? If not, do you plan on accomplishing them? What ideas will fill your mind next? We should live our lives thinking about what comes next and never settle for being finished.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
