What Is Music?

Just talking about how music keeps me sane.

What Is Music?

In my own words, I believe music is the sound of the people. It is a lot more than just an instrumental or a series of sounds/words, I believe that music is a way a person can express themselves in many different ways. Music is something that people can really feel and at times use as a way to distract themselves from reality. For me, music is something that heals my emotions and helps me escape from everyday life. It is something that distracts me and allows me to feel more emotion. Music is something that helps people connect to other people and the world.

Music also is used to help a person feel like they can be understood by someone other than themselves. It allows them to connect with something that will always understand them in a different way. Not only is music entertainment, but it is something that relaxes and speaks to you. Music is a therapy. It is something that heals the soul of many people by listening to their favorite genre, group or artist. It picks them up when they are down, it makes their day better than it was, it comforts them in time of need. As Bob Marley once said, “One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.” Music changes the world around us because it often changes the people in this world. The effects music has on people is truly endless.

Personally, music is a sign of expression that influences many things in my life, including my mood or the way I want to express how I feel. Lyrics are something that are so important to me in songs because of how, at times, they allow you to connect to them no matter what type of music it is. Lyrics are an expression to reach out and connect to the audience, making them feel like they belong to something.

Music is something that has become a really important part of my life as I get older because I grew more of an appreciation for what music and lyrics have to offer a person. Not only is music an expression of the people, it also helps people connect to themselves and others who enjoy the same type of music.

Artists that tell a story in their songs are what attracts me to listen to more of their music. The storytelling in songwriting allows the audience to feel a part of something. Along with beats that attract me as a listener, the lyrics are very important to me. Lyrics are involved in the storytelling, and depending on what’s coming from the artist is what attracts me as an audience.

The genres of music I enjoy listening to really varies on how I feel. I really enjoy artists who aren't afraid to express themselves and still create a catchy tune with their songs. I can listen to almost any type of music and just attempt to gain an understanding for what it has to offer to me as a person. I believe that music is something that people use as a motivation or relaxation method.

For me, I use it to motivate me when working out or to help me focus while doing homework. There is so much more to music than people really believe. If there was no music in our lives, people would not be able to get that satisfaction from that one song or that one artist that they do.

They wouldn’t get to listen to that “feel good” song to change their mood on a bad day. Music allows artists to express themselves in a way where the audience gains relief or enjoyment from listening to set music. It really does have a serious effect on people today because of the feelings it captures from those listening.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.

What's up Asshat,

I've composed a list of things that I wish upon you, and they're harsh and cruel. These things are things that I wouldn't wish upon my worst of enemies, not even that Starbuck's barista who always screws up my order, not even him. You fall into a whole other category of hate. You surpass Starbucks barista. Congratulations, I'm actually a pretty nice person, making you worthy of every single bit of torture I wish upon you. What are these things I wish upon you you might ask?
