Back in July when the somewhat long anticipated Pokemon Go was released, the countries it was originally released it were sent into a frenzy as many people took to the streets of their towns and cities to “catch ‘em all.” Back then there were many server issues with the game but now two months later, there have been different issues such as the tracking system which Niantic has been working on. We’ve also met the gym leaders to the three teams.
However, Pokemon Go has been on a clear decline which can specifically be traced to when Niantic decided to completely remove the tracking system which apparently did not work. When they did this they also shut down all 3rd party tracking websites such as Pokevision which allowed players to see the exact location of spawned Pokemon and how much more time they would be at that location. They felt it wasn’t with the true nature of the game which although many disagreed with, there were some that did agree. Then the app took a huge plunge in regards to daily users. But can Niantic expect a slower gradual decline?
We’re moving into fall which calls for beautiful weather, however, it isn't the weather you want to spend all day running around for Pokemon in? On top of that a large group of Pokemon Go players, students, are beginning to return to school if they haven't already. One major reason Pokemon Go was so successful was because of the time it was released, the beginning of summer, where students didn’t really have to worry about schoolwork unless it was summer reading. But now that it is back to school season, is Pokemon Go over?
If it may seem like it is, Niantic have still been working on the app. One of these is the buddy system and a new tracking system. Although working on these new features, what is Niantic’s plan by the time winter hits and unless you live in Florida or California, don't plan leaving your house unless it’s to get to and from work/school? It seems that maybe around that time people will slow down the playing of Pokemon Go and instead play the upcoming Pokemon Sun and Moon which won’t require you much movement. But maybe Ninatic has some other tricks up their sleeve to ensure current players still play as often and that old players return.
Niantic can definitely expect the amount of daily players to take a dip between now and December, and expect some to return by mid December. They can hope that by the time they decide to release the second generation of Pokemon into Go that the hype will return.
