Do you remember the first time you saw a masterpiece on display at your local museum? I don't remember mine, but I now have a deeper appreciation for art (no matter what form it may appear). If you take a moment and think about it, art has a way of shaping our lives. Teachers have to think creatively to keep their students occupied, and engineers have to be able to think outside of the box to make technology work more efficiently. Art can shape both of those occupations because it requires one to think creatively. My own definition of art isn't just what is pleasing to the eye. It is also an object or idea that one may change for the better. For example, your tech guy who creates the newest computer type for you to buy next or the professor who creates this elaborate project so you can think differently about the topic, are all prime examples of art.
Now don't get me wrong, I love the spectacular paintings from artists like Van Gogh or Leonid Afremov, but that's not the only limitation of art. Art (by another definition) can also be anything that makes you feel something. On one of my journeys to Venice, Italy, I walked down this street where all of these artists put their own paintings up for sale, and it consumed me with happiness and filled me with bubbles to see the raw talent that was just out in the middle of a common street in Italy. My personal favorite type of art is dance. I get so wound up with every beat of the music no matter the type. And so my wonderful readers next time you find yourself doing something that consumes you (in a healthy way of course) save it in your heart so you can share it with whomever you please. Who knows, you might discover your future within it.
