What I'm Thankful For

Who said we had to wait for Thanksgiving to be thankful?

We all have this habit of waiting for special days and holidays to tell the people in our lives who and what we are thankful for. I want the people in my life to know that I am forever thankful for them and what I am thankful for. I don't want to wait for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or my family members birthday for them to know exactly how I feel about them and what I am grateful for.

1. Summer

I love summer in general, The beach, tans, long nights, friends and vacations. What's not to love and be thankful for? I think this is something that every student can relate to since school has just ended for many. For the summer, we are finally free of papers, quizzes, exams and everything students hate. I am so thankful to have summer to get a break from all of this.

2. Family

I love my family. They have always been there for me and supported me in whatever I wanted to do. They have loved me and cared for me and gave me some of the best and most important lessons in my life. Without them, I am not afraid to say I would not be where I am today. I love them dearly and I want them to know that I am not just thankful for them on certain days, but all year long.

3. University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee

I am thankful for the school I get to attend. I know how blessed I am to get to go to college. I knew that I always wanted to go away, and at first, I didn't think that would always be possible. But, because of my parents and my stubbornness I got to go away and experience all these new adventures. I am so thankful for UWM and all the memories I have made and all the memories I will continue to make.

4. Sorority

I am so happy that I got the opportunity to rush and find my home away from home. I have met some of the most amazing people from AOII and I know that they will be lifelong friends. I am so lucky that if I have a problem, or need some girl time, I have so many loving and caring sisters that will be there for me and support me.

5. Girlfriend

I may not tell her enough, but she knows how much she means to me; a little reassurance never hurts, though. We became so close in such a short amount of time. She went from a stranger to my best friend, to my girlfriend and I couldn't be happier. She's my rock at school and the person I tell everything too. She deserves to know that I am so thankful she came into my life.

6. Friends

To my friends at school and back home, I want you all to know that you have helped me become the person I am today. You have helped me through some of the toughest times of my life and some of the best. To each and every one of you, know how much you mean to me.

Sometimes just telling the people in your life you love them isn't enough. Those people deserve to know how thankful you are for them and how much they mean to you. I am thankful for many things, and its time I start saying it more.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
