What I’ll Miss Most As An Intern

I wasn't just fetching coffee.

What I’ll Miss Most As An Intern

The semester is coming to a close, graduation is around the corner and snow is beginning to fall as we prepare for the holidays. Finals are about to begin and it is the last week fetching coffee, performing tasks, filling last minute details and orders or whatever it is that you do at your internship. There are a few things that I will truly miss from my time at my internship.

My office.

For starters, when future employers ask me what kind of work environment I’d like to spend my time in my answer will revolve around this internship. My office is so much fun, my co-workers often play music depending on the season. My first day they were watching runway shows from fashion week and I knew I was in the right place. Now I’m not telling my next future employer that I want the office to blare music and look like an episode of 'The Office' but I expect the work environment to be as friendly and welcoming as this one.

In reality, what I'll miss is the comfort of my desk when I'm sitting behind it. It's an average desk with two computer screens, lots of space and the most perfect spot for whatever cute coffee mug I brought to work that day. There was also a spot for my breakfast that my work often provided for everyone (insert happy emoji here). It's the feeling of composure, adulthood and consistency that I will miss.

My co-workers.

I was always able to stop in someone’s office and just chitchat for a few minutes about their day or weekend plans. This made us all very comfortable to talk and ask questions when needed. They always invited me out for lunch, dinner and weekend plans outside of work. They’ve already added me on all forms of social media along with their best style tips and app recommendations.

The work.

My responsibilities and projects were manageable. They weren’t overwhelming although sometimes the deadline was intimidating. My projects were fun and made me really absorb the work so I can show off what I’ve learned at the next internship or job I have.

The experience and memories.

From chili cook-off Fridays, to going to lunch on the company card and decorating the Christmas tree I will miss my time here so much. The experience has only solidified how much I want to work in the industry I have chosen and the people I've met along the way have motivated me to want to come to work everyday. The saying is true, find a job (or an internship) you love and you'll never work a day in your life.

Thanks for an amazing semester filled with amazing lessons, connections and opportunity. I'll miss this internship so incredibly much!

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.
