College is a transition for pretty much anyone: your parents aren't babysitting you anymore, you create your own schedule, you have some actual adult responsibilities. But for some people like me, it's going to be a real adjustment. Next year I will be a freshman at Adrian College in Adrian, Michigan. I will be moving 593 miles away from my hometown in Delaware and I'm going to have to make some lifestyle changes. Adapting to not having a beach 10 minutes away, and having actual freeways with more than 2 lanes, college will be a different experience. The most difficult and heartbreaking change though...
Michigan does not have one. single. Wawa.
Wawas are plentiful near me; there is one exactly 2.9 miles from my house. But they are only located through Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, and little bits of Pennsylvania, Virginia and Florida. The rest of the country, I'm sorry. You guys are missing out.
So to those who don't know what Wawa is, let me give a quick explanation. It is a gas station/convenience store, but don't let that deceive you. It is one of the best tasting convenience stores I have ever had (but maybe I'm biased). Not only do most of them provide gas at a cheap price and good quality - some are only convenience stores - they have some of the best grab-and-go food.
Yeah, yeah, the food is superb, but it wouldn't be like that without the great customer service. The staff at every Wawa I've been to have been more than happy to help and are always friendly. Not all gas stations are the friendliest, and not all of them are clean either. I don't believe that I have ever seen a dirty Wawa. The staff really keeps the floor, and the bathrooms clean so customers don't think they need a shower after they walk in.
If I haven't convinced you that Wawa is the best convenience store out there, let's talk about the fact that they always have deals. Now I'm not just talking about sales on food like every other place, they have Free Coffee Fridays (and their coffee is great), surveys to get you a free drink, and they have a rewards program. That rewards program gets you 25 cents off of your gas bill for the first 2 months, and then 10 cents off every month after that. Your rewards program is hooked to a Wawa gift card and can be tracked by an app on your phone. For every $50 you spend, you receive coupons, which are always great because it means you get to get more Wawa!
So in all honesty, this post was to inform everyone that I think I will miss Wawa more than my own family, but also to tell all of the other 44 states in the U.S., that they need to get with the program.
