What If Biggie And Tupac Were Alive Today?

I still think they'd be the greatest rappers.

What If Biggie And Tupac Were Alive Today?

Okay, this is a debate that I’ve heard all my life and probably will continue to hear until the day that I die. Who was the better rapper: Tupac or Biggie? Some say Biggie because of his lyrical flow and ruthless bars. Others might say Tupac because he had more of a message in his music. To be honest, we can go all day back and forth about who the better rapper was, but the real question that I want to know is what would the rap game be like if they were both alive today?

The reason I ask this question is because my friends and I were talking about who are the top five greatest rappers ever and my friend and I obviously said Biggie and Tupac would be on that list. Then my other friend did something I’ve never seen anyone do before: he disagreed with that statement. Before my head exploded in outrage from the words he said, I took a deep breath and calmly asked him “why do you say that?” He said the only reasons that they were in the top five were because 1.) They both died when they were in their prime and 2.) They died before they would eventually sell out to the industry. I’m sitting there looking at my friend like he’s crazy. Like seriously? What the hell was he talking about? But as I started to actually sit there and think about it: did he have a point?

I mean, when Biggie and Tupac died, they both were in the prime of their careers so I can’t really get mad at that. But if they were still alive today, would they be the same hip hop artists the world grew up to love, or would they be veteran artists who would just be trying to be relevant? In my opinion, I feel as though every artist has to change just a little bit throughout in order to stay relevant to each new generation. I feel as though it would be impossible to be in the music industry for 10 or more years and your style of music stays exactly the same. It’s funny to think how I’ve heard people complain about these new rappers out there and how their styles are whack, but if Biggie and Tupac were alive now, would they school these rappers or would they conform to the same style to in order to still get “radio play” like they did in the 90s?

Look, I’m not saying necessarily Biggie and Tupac would of changed to fit in with the new generation. I’m just trying to give you something to think about. Who knows, maybe they would have stayed the same. Or maybe they would be making collab records with Taylor Swift or something, I really don’t know. What I do know is that in my opinion, Biggie and Tupac deserve to be in the category of the greatest rappers that ever lived. Hands down. Peace.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
