It's that time of year again, and comic con is fast approaching. I'm writing this as of July 17th, so currently it starts tomorrow. Every year, comic con announces not only big comic news, but also reveals major movie and tv show news. Here are some of the things I want to see this year.
MCU Phase 4
This is obviously the thing I think most people are excited for. Past some general ideas, we don't really know what's coming next for Marvel Studios. Some popular theories are the introduction of the Fantastic Four or the X-Men, A Dark Avengers film, the introduction of characters such as Riri Williams and Miles Morales. The possibilities of where the studio could go next are endless, and with the solid track record they've established over the last decade, I'm excited to see where they decide to go next.
The Future of the DCEU
The DCEU has had a rough go of it. They've had more bad movies than good ones at this point. Aquaman and Shazam! both felt like a form of course correction, but still felt like they were trying to copy the Marvel formula in a lot of aspects. The future of the movie franchise is full of a lot of vague ideas and not a lot of confirmed projects. To get an official update on what their plans are would be nice. Something they should do is try to find their own groove. Say what you will about Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, but when Zack Snyder was running thing, at least their was one vision at work in terms of the tone of the universe. Now the tone of this franchise is fundamentally different and doesn't feel like the same universe at all.
Godzilla vs. Kong Trailer
Godzilla: King of the Monsters wasn't great, but one thing this series has always gotten right is the action. King Kong vs. Godzilla was a movie I watched a lot as a kid, so to see a modern remake of it is gonna be a dream come true.
Y: The Last Man Update
I LOVE Y: The Last Man. It's one of my favorite comics of all time. When I heard it was going to be adapted into a television series, I was pumped. Unfortunately, that was years ago at this point. Last I heard was that it was headed to FX, but had been delayed. As far as I know, it's gonna air in 2020, so if there was a panel, or even a trailer I would be so excited.
The Next Brightburn
Brightburn was a welcome surprise for me this year. It was unique in the sense that it was a Superman story without the crutch of having to stick to the Superman mythos. I would love to see more superhero-esque movies like this. Nothing directly connected to Brightburn though, I would want to see more stand alone ideas.
