Okay, I know I was supposed to write part two of The Trilogy of Growing Up: Suburbia, but something important happened over the course of the week and it really got me thinking. Let me back up. As we all know thanks to our Twitter feeds and Facebook, the Democratic National Convention took place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Why is this news — because it's politics? Because everyone has such strong opinions about one side or the other? Because Bernie decided to give it to Hillary?
OH.
Yeah, that happened, and with that it really got me thinking about what that means come election time and I boiled it down to a mere four words: "What the Hell, America?"
That's where I'm at with this. The Donald Vs. HRC. The hate mongering, self-contradicting wig piece Vs. The Federal Criminal. This is what we've narrowed it down to as the person to speak for our country. Think about that. Really let that soak in.
Let's play a game called 'Scenario', and this scenario is the G20 Summit 2016. Now, at the Summit, imagine both of the two main party candidates, and something is said about our country or maybe something they disagree with, what happens? Cringing at the answer yet? I am a little, but that's because I don't trust either of them. With Trump, it's that the country shouldn't be run like a company and with Clinton, well, do you trust the woman who allegedly stole documents from Richard Nixon's Watergate trial and lied about talking to other supervisors? Do you trust the same actions from a woman who was supposedly blacklisted almost everywhere for work in D.C. at the time? No? I bet you feel sick thinking about your choices now, don't you?
Let me be very transparent with all of you. This isn't about me siding with one or the other. This isn't me saying, VOTE TRUMP or VOTE CLINTON. I'm not hashtagging this to death with slogans. I'm not siding with anyone. This is just my mere observations and thoughts after thinking about the situation, the people, and two 10 hour shifts for my second job. Some people think Clinton is still better because she's more accepting of LGTBQ+, others say Trump because, "Dammit, he tells it how it is." I'm not here to discuss reasoning, I'm here to merely vent my exasperation with what we are left with in choices for President of this country. I'm just very concerned about what happens three days after my 24th birthday. Do we get another historical election or do e have a group of people who truly believe that they are going to be targeted and ostracized from the rest of society.
Yes, I know, I hear you in the back, I'm aware of the third party candidates and for the sake of my thoughts, I'm going to count them as irrelevant at this point for two reasons.
1. The biggest reason being that I truly feel like American's have an issue voting for a third party candidate because they don't have a strong enough leaning either way. They lack that identifier of Democrat or Republican, and therefore feel uneasy over casting their vote for them.
2. I really don't know too much about who is running as third party and even if I did all the research, I really don't see them winning because there are two big names on the ballet.
I guess what I'm getting at here is that I have no idea what the hell happened with this election. I guess I have an idea of who I'm voting for. Most of you can happily take your guesses. I will vote, I believe that if I'm going to talk about politics, have an opinion, and gripe about candidates or people who hold a seat of power, then I should use my right to vote to change that power or keep it in place. Personally, if you don't plan on voting, don't complain. If you want to complain, go register to vote if you're 18 and go make a difference. Yes, as I just said, I will vote and after I vote and the election is over, I'll announce who I voted for.
This is what's left for us to pick from, America. Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton. Who do you want to be in the White House? Who would you like calling the shots? Trying to decrease unemployment and keep it below 8% or actually do something to find shelter for the homeless? Who do you think will stick up for equal rights?
Now raise your hand if you believe that your candidate would.
I didn't think so.
