What the Heck is a Birthday Waltz?

Becoming legal is big deal. A great birthday sign, have the best worst night of your life, and enjoy the newly adopted full responsibility of yourself while waltzing the night away with your gal pals. As depressing as it sounds, your 21st birthday is the last birthday that you will be happy to celebrate. You are over 18, under 30 and are now legally allowed to have a drink. You are deemed acceptable in society and now looked at as a true adult -- only by the law.

The night of your 21st will be a night to remember, or not, but either way it is the one night that drunken behaviors are socially acceptable, and morals are not judged when thrown out the window because, "Hey, it's my 21st birthday!"

Girls have created a way for the 21st birthday craze to become an even bigger deal than it should be, by calling it a waltz. Waltzing is when a girl and her group of friends are dressed as a common theme that surrounds her birthday sign that she wears around her neck the entire night. The sign normally is a symbol of something she likes, but more importantly, it has a list of 21 tasks she must accomplish before the night is over. In order to be sure that you or your friend has a night she will never forget, creating the perfect sign can be a factor -- and also a challenge. Here is a list of the most basic and creative ideas I have seen. I challenge you to be more creative than most of these, although props to the ones that go above and beyond.

Creative

1. Nickname. Using a name that she goes by only sometimes can be a great play on words to go with, but also a great theme.

Basic

2.  Favorite drink. We have seen this time, and time again. Obviously the first thing people think of about their 21st birthday is their favorite alcohol, so steer clear of this unless you are running short on time; then you can just print out a large picture of the bottle and paste it on poster board.

Creative

3. Event that is on or near her birthday. While this is already a theme of a holiday, since it is near her birthday, why not combine the two celebrations and make it twice as big?

Basic

4. Favorite accessory. The shoe. The bow. The hat. If you are going to do something generic like this, at least make it something fun like a t-shirt tuxedo that says, "I like to be formal, but I am here to party."

Basic

5. Favorite designer. Two words: over done. We have all seen every form of brand logo with different words or a name written in the same font to mimic it. Try again.

Creative

6. Favorite animal. Normally, I would not deem this as creative, but I have to say, whoever made this sign put some serious effort into doodling for it just to be ruined by the end of the night.

7. Hometown hero. Finding something that is particularly special about her hometown can make a fun theme that not many other people probably thought of, especially if she is celebrating somewhere that is not in her hometown.

8. Favorite nerdy obsession. Who does not secretly love Harry Potter?

9. Favorite way to offend people. This sign can either be a great or terrible way to get free drinks. You might get top shelf liquor or maybe a wad of spit in your shot. Be on the lookout, actually have someone else lookout for you to be safe.

10. Favorite mystical creature. Mermaids always win. If she is not from somewhere tropical, she wishes she was. Help her out with that.

11. Her major. Her life has been dedicated to this topic for the past three years, make her actually enjoy it for one night.

12. Her personality. If she already is a creative person, the options are endless for you when making her birthday sign. She will more than likely help you with an idea herself, or will be more than open to whatever wacky idea you come up with.

Basic

He 13. Classic numerals -- if all else fails.

Dear High School Friend Group,

My sweet angels, where would I be without you guys. We all grew up together because we either met in middle school or high school and watched each other grow up and get "old." We got to go to prom together and then graduate together. Then watched each other as we continued our lives in college, joining sororities and meeting people who will impact our lives forever. It all has happened so fast.

Oh college, we can’t live with you, but we can’t live without you. It’s a love/hate relationship, really. College is an experience that no one can ever prepare you for, and maybe that’s a good thing. You never really expect any of the things that college encompasses until you are there. College is fun, but don’t have too much fun. C’s get degrees, but they don’t get you into graduate school.

Blair Waldorf

The "Gossip Girl" series may be over, but Blair Waldorf's iconic character lives in our hearts forever. Blair was the queen of the Upper East Side, and a character you either loved or hated. She taught us everything we needed to know about life, love and of course, how to score a Chuck Bass. So the next time you feel a bit lost and are in need of guidance, look no further than to the Queen B herself.

As I spend my Sunday avoiding my homework and other adult responsibilities, I realized that I've watched this series over and over about a million times. Sadly, there isn't a Blair quote I don't know, so I came up with a list of a few favorites. You know you love her...xoxo

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.
