By now, the latest thing to hit Starbucks fandom has gone around the nation: the pink drink. Yes, while no one knows exactly what it is, every sweet innocent girl out there is in love with this colorful indulgence at their favorite coffee shop. It's comprised of a strawberry refresher and coconut milk, giving your summer day the perfect sweet ending note as if you were in a tropical paradise.
I recently ventured down to my local Starbucks location, and ordered myself one of these coveted pink drinks. The young barista stated, "You and all the other girls around here want that pink drink!" He seemed a bit agitated. He continued, "Well there's a shortage on Starbucks' coconut milk due to you and all your little friends." To my surprise, I opted for sugary treats instead. He backtracked, "Well, would you be interested in soy milk? Or whole milk?" I smiled, losing some patience, "No, I am lactose intolerant, and soy milk is bad for you." He looked back at me, puzzled. He began again, "What? Why is it bad?" I dropped the nice-girl act and continued in a serious tone, "Soy milk is very bad for your reproductive system, and I'd like to have babies one day." He chuckled, "Oh, well good luck with that." I took my treats to go.
While I do not want to focus this article about non-dairy and healthier alternatives, I do want to bring up a crucial point for all restaurant and fast food chains out there. If you have options and alternatives to your drinks and items, you should be educated on these alternatives! You should know what your customers want, what's trendy and what isn't. Does the company even know all the great health benefits of coconut milk found is this beloved drink? As a company advertised to be dedicated to their customers, you should be able to place yourself in their position and think like them. I'm not pro or con anything specifically, but if you don't understand your ingredients and their position on our fridge shelves, how can you say you're dedicated to your customers?
But all Starbucks frustration aside, I hope they bring in more coconut milk soon, please and thank you.
