In case you haven’t noticed, there is an election coming up. You may have gotten confused because it seems more like a dumb reality TV show called American Politics.
In six weeks, billions, hopefully, will vote for the next president. The choices are quite bleak.
On one hand we have a candidate who was basically fired from her last job in office for lying and doesn’t know how to use 21st century email systems. On the other side we have a billionaire who ran for president just for kicks and somehow became the republican nominee. No candidate running or past president has been perfect, but really this is what we are left with. Since when does money and a last name’s override ethics and morals? Why does it suddenly matter who’s tweets are the best or which candidate bashes the other just enough to be deemed more qualified?
Because of this election our country has become more divided than ever. The next president will be the most hated one coming into office that our country has ever seen. In an era where global relations are key, America is seen as a joke. Our candidates seem more eager to fight with each other than actually do anything to help our country. Whoever is voted President, we will be handing our country over to a person that has acted like a rich kindergartener with too much hair spray, than a leader. Where will we go from there? Hopefully only up.
We are a country full of people who can support someone over social media, but not on paper. We will stand with someone because of a party title, not because they are right for the job. We have become a country of “sayer’s” and not “doers."
George Washington warned us against political parties and looking at our country now, he would probably be severely disappointed. We have let a party name get in the way of what actually needs to get done for our country. We are not Republicans or Democrats, we are American’s and we need to come together not just for our country, but for each other.
John F. Kennedy once said, “Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer. Let us not seek to fix the blame for the past. Let us accept our own responsibility for the future."
This is America’s future. Are we making it great or throwing it away?
