What Happens When You Have the Day Off

The perfect time to relax and catch up with friends

It is a blessing when you finally have the day off from your many jobs that you have this summer. It is the perfect opportunity to take a break out of your busy schedule to remember that you are still a human being. For at least a day, you don’t have to deal with bipolar customers or answer any phones from companies. I think that many of us will agree with these things that we tend to do when you finally have the day off.

Sleeping in

Now is the perfect chance to catch up on the sleep that you don’t have. You don’t remember the last time that you slept in so it may come as a shock to you. Unfortunately, your body might not be used to sleeping in until 12 p.m. like you used to so instead you find yourself waking up at 7 or 8 a.m. when trying to sleep in. Just lying in bed for a couple of hours is worth it at least.

Binge watching shows

Since you never really found the time, now you can watch the shows that you missed or have been waiting to see. You can finally catch up on the "Game of Thrones" episodes you missed even though it has already been spoiled for you many times on social media. You can also watch the new season of "Orange is the New Black" and make it a whole day event.

Eat decent food

Instead of being starving at your job and watching the clock until it is finally break or lunch time, you can now eat whenever you want. This means endless Dunkin runs and being able go to restaurants for lunch or dinner. My favorite food is usually breakfast foods so going out for breakfast is the best way to start off your day when your off from work.

Hang out with friends

Did you forget that you have a social life? This usually happens when you become a workaholic. Now you finally have the chance to catch up with your friends and seeing if anything interesting happened while you were gone. It’s always good to see your friends cause they will always keep you grounded and sane in your life.

Stay up late

You don’t have work the next day so there is no need to set the ten million alarms on your phone! You don’t have to worry about getting up early by attempting to go to bed early. Instead you can stay up as late as you want like the rebel you are. However, I usually get excited about staying up late but end up going to sleep early anyway.

Enjoying summer

Summer will not last forever so it is important that you enjoy it while it lasts. Even though it may not be easy working a lot during the summer, it will pay off with the money you make which will be all spent on your days off and vacations. Enjoy your days off and enjoy your summer!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
