What happens when you disappoint yourself in college? We've all been there. You study hard for a test and you're sure you did well, but when you get your grade back you didn't do as well as you thought you did. Or maybe you wrote an analysis paper that you thought would surely land you an A, but the TA gives you a B-. It happens, and it sucks. When we don't live up to our potential, it's a little heartbreaking knowing that we could have and should have done better. It makes you feel like a failure, but those are the moments that we can't spend too much time obsessing over — we have to get past it and move on. So what do you do after you disappoint yourself in college?
1. Eat something sweet and watch your fave Netflix show.
Yes, allow yourself just a little bit of time to feel sad, and relax a little bit while binge watching Orange is the New Black and eating cookies. Do some retail therapy and buy that phone case you've been wanting. There's no shame in wallowing a little in the pity party you've created for yourself, but don't wallow in it for too long.
2. Stop procrastinating and get work done.
So what you just made a C on that chem test or didn't get a call back for that audition? Move past it and get started on your to do list, whether you read a chapter or two in your text book, finish an online discussion, or write a whole paper in two hours. The point is, just because you didn't do your best on one thing, doesn't mean you're a failure.
3. Wake up the next day feeling inspired.
Tomorrow's a new day, tomorrow the world is your oyster. Wake up, eat a good breakfast, put on your new shirt, wear that bright lipstick, and head to campus ready to crush it. Apply for that internship you want, talk to the cute guy in your class, book that trip to New York. It's a brand new day to do incredible things. So don't let that one grade or that one rejection halt you from making your dreams a reality. Keep looking at the big picture and know that all these small obstacles won't mean anything once you get to where you want to be.
