Even though Lin-Manuel Miranda's Tony Award winning masterpiece first graced the world with it's presence on January 20th, 2015, I have just recently fallen in love with it. It all began when my sorority Big first introduced it to me back in May. However, it didn't really click for me until just a few weeks ago. Needless to say, after listening to the 46 song musical straight through, there was no turning back. If you're anything like me, here is what probably ensued:
1. The whole soundtrack plays on loop in your mind
It happens when you're working, eating or just going about your normal day. You'll be moving to the beat of "Schyler Sisters" while you 'Work! Work!.' You just can't help it and secretly hope it never stops.
2. The lyrics find their way into your life
You know you can't 'take a break' from this musical. It has inserted itself into every facet of your life and its presence is 'nonstop.' The lines have become your Instagram captions, tweets and Facebook statuses.
3. You suddenly want to visit all the American Historical sites
You want to go to Independence Hall to be in 'the room where it happened' and most definitely are not above inserting more lyrics in your captions (see reason above).
4. You seriously identify with at least one of the characters and assume their role when their part plays
This happens to me all the time with Angelica and Elizabeth Styler. No one can convince me otherwise whether parts play. I'm 'helpless' when Eliza's part comes on and will never be 'satisfied' no matter how many times I hear Angelica's.
5. While listening, you feel like "History Has It's Eyes on You"
Lin-Emanuel Miranda's work of art really inspires you to appreciate those that made his country and to be one to make it even better than they left it. You know you 'may not live to see it's glory, but you will gladly join the fight.' Realizing that these incredible people were once like you, just doing what they thought was right, makes you feel like you could make history.
You'll always raise a glass to Lin-Manuel Miranda's masterpiece and it will always have a special place in your heart. It's just such a revolutionary (literally) piece that has made people all over the country (and maybe even world) feel inspired and amazed by it's contents. This has been a list of a few of the things that happened when I first fell for Hamilton. As I sign off, I wonder, 'who lives, who dies, who tells your story?'
