Ok, We See The Extravagant Photos, But The Met Gala Is Actually More Than A Pink Carpet

For as long as I can remember, I have been very intrigued by the Met Gala. I wait in anticipation on the first Monday of May every year to see what the celebrities have come up with to match the designated theme for that year. I can honestly say I am never disappointed by how the stars show out for this event. Whether it is Katy Perry wearing a hamburger, or Lady Gaga walking the red carpet with not one, but FOUR different looks, attendees do not hold back when preparing for this, the biggest event on the fashion calendar. Along with being the biggest event, it is one of the most secretive fashion events of the year.

This year, as I was looking through Instagram and Twitter and drooling over all the outfits, my friend and I started wondering something that we had never thought of before. After the stars arrive, walk the red carpet, and take pictures to make everyone who is not there extremely jealous, what do they actually do inside the Met Gala? Do they continue to take pictures? Do they talk to each other? How do some of these people sit down in their extravagant outfits? Do they change their outfits? All of these questions were running through my mind and I decided I needed to know what happens inside of the Met Gala for my own personal well-being.

As we all know, the Met Gala is a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute and fashion department, which is the only exhibit at the Met that has to fund itself. The tickets for this year's event started at $30,000 and almost every celebrity you can think of attended the Gala (after being approved by Anna Wintour, of course).

According to The Cut, inside the event is much more normal that I was thinking it would be. After arriving on the red carpet, stars explore the fashion gallery set up for that year, which is then followed by a dinner (which kind of answers one of my questions that some of the stars have to change their outfits — there is no way some can sit down in those things). After dinner, guests wander and look at more art, an A-list celebrity typically performs, and sometimes, if we're lucky, some juicy stories regarding celebrities will come out of the night.

While I now feel like I am a little more in the loop with what happens inside the Met Gala, I don't know if we'll ever truly know what goes on past the amazing red carpet. I guess I'll just have to get invited one day (Anna Wintour, wink wink).

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
