What Is Happening To Our World?

In remembrance of those who lost their lives because of our broken world.

It was dark. Not pitch black, but dark enough to the point that I could only see the silhouette of my mom to my right. The music began playing along with the animated music videos displayed on the big screen. The screen was outlined with reds, greens, blues; all vibrant enough to light up the sky. The fog machines started on queue with the burst of controlled flame to the right and left of the colorful screen. The lights turned into lasers and began to dance through the sky and across the hundreds of faces.

All I could think about was that this would be the opportune place for a shooting to take place. Why did a laser show, that I attended on a weekend camping trip with my family, turn into me watching my surrounds more so than the show itself.

What is happening to our world?

Kids are shooting kids. Men are raping women, women are raping men. Domestic violence is looked over. Pedophilia is in full swing due to the ever present use, or in this case abuse, of technology. People are dying because of their sexuality. Serial killers are topping the charts. Inequality is ever present in our, now societal proclaimed, cliques. Some police are practicing brutality instead of utilizing what they were trained to do. Children are being sold for sex and drugs. The same drugs in which are killing by the hundreds. Depression. Anxiety. Suicide. People are starving. People are dying in movie theaters, at marathons, in church, at school, on base, at work. Friend turns on friend and in the same way so do brothers. War. So much death, hurt, tears.

What is happening to our world?

We are White, African-American, Asian, Jewish, Christian, Buddhist, Muslim, Gay, Straight, Transgender. We are moms, daughters, sisters, nieces, aunts, grandchildren, grandparents, uncles, nephews, brothers, sons, dads. We are teachers, social workers, police officers, garbage men, managers, priests, unemployed, laid-off, working class. We drive vans, trucks, SUV's, old cars, new cars, expensive cars, cheap cars. The lives we live, although they are all so unique don't forget that; we all have a heart, a brain, lungs, a kidney or two, a stomach, veins, blood. We all work the same on the inside even though we aren't the same on the outside. We disagree. We love we hate. We are all just trying to survive the best way we know how. But is the way that we are living destroying a life of another? Don't ask yourself what is happening to our world... Ask yourself if you are a part of the bad... Find the good, dwell on that. With all the bad in this world we need to grasp every second of happiness that we can, and hang on with all of our might.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).

No matter how long your class is, there's always time for the mind to wander. Much like taking a shower or trying to fall asleep, sitting in a classroom can be a time when you get some of your best ideas. But, more than likely, you're probably just trying to mentally cope with listening to a boring lecturer drone on and on. Perhaps some of the following Aristotle-esque thoughts have popped into your head during class.

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.
