Time and time again, technology has shaped our everyday lives. We become immersed in fascination with what is out there to get our hands on. Yet despite the fact that it could do everything we could possibly want, it will still never be good enough to the public. In an era where practically everything relies on technology, the cellphone has become the most indispensable device for people of today’s society. It has come to change just about everything we have known about the world we live in. One of the key impacts that the cellphone has had on society is socialization itself.
Communication before the smartphone, in general, relied on one basic key: the human factor. Face-to-face communication was (and still is) so much more enriching than messages that are just sent through social media or text. When two people are exchanging conversation in real life, both people become engaged in what the other person has to say because expression and emotion is felt rather than just received through a monotone text filled with emojis. Because of our constant need to update the smartphone on a yearly basis, communication has changed so much as a result. Social media has done more than just invade the internet, it has become a part of the internet entirely; and that’s just the tip of the iceberg! As if one social media network wasn’t enough, there are many built today for the preference of the individual. It’s a teenager’s dream: they can officially “multi-task” amid Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and everything in between. All thanks to these social media sites, messages between people can be sent between each other within a matter of seconds, increasing the amount of conversation that is achieved within a short amount of time. But that is the very problem, why does society need to increase the amount of conversation that is achieved within a short amount of time? Aren’t we living in a fast-paced world as it is these days? Then again, this is all coming from an opinionated college student, so what do I know?
When it comes down to it, technology is always going to be around, and it’s never going to leave. It has become a way of life for society. It is another piece to add to the complexity of a puzzle that we already are as humans. It has become part of our home life, our routine, schooling, job, and entertainment. The world has become dependent on this technology so much, that their lives practically depend on it. In a modern life, social media has become a very influential part of today’s society. Now that technology has infiltrated the lives of many, life unfortunately may never go back to the way it once was before the smart phone. The only thing kids of 2016 can do now is read of this past culture, only being able to say, “Wow! Life must have been pretty rough before the cellphone and social media!”
