Many people are under the impression that putting in a show is no work at all. They think that everyone just shows up one day and puts on a show, however, I can assure you that bringing a production to life is no easy feat.
First, there has to be a vision on the part of the director. They have to have an idea for their show and how they are going to put it together. They have to have a crew to help with their vision.
Then, there need to be auditions to cast the show. There is no show if there aren’t any characters! Sometimes these auditions go on for hours, and often times occur on multiple days for the same show just so that the cast is just right!
After that comes the rehearsal process. The show is worked on for months before it is seen. Rehearsals may last all day if needed! Outside work is also required so that everybody comes to rehearsal prepared.
After this comes tech rehearsals where all of the crew is brought in to bring the world around the characters to life. This include sound operators, lighting operactors, run crew, wardrobe, production designers, shop workers, and stage management (although stage management has been there throughout the entire process.) These people dedicate so much of their time to ensure that everything runs safely and smoothly.
Next there are dress rehearsals were the show is practically run over and over to get everyone acquainted with the show and the process that will occur during the actual shows.
Finally, the show is put out into the world for people to enjoy. This entire process requires so many people to bring a new piece of world to life. These people do this process not just for themselves, but for you too.
