I was driving to work a few days ago, not even really paying attention to the radio until something caught my ear. I noticed it was Darius Rucker singing about what God might want for Christmas. It made me think... really think about what God wants, not just for Christmas, but every day. What if he sat down and made a wish list like we do? I doubt his would be trivial and materialistic like ours.
I think there's a lot of things God wants from us. One thing mentioned in the song was "no more empty seats in church." There's no doubt God wants us to be at church. He wants us to be there with our brothers and sisters in Christ worshipping Him and encouraging one another. Another thing mentioned was "every Bible with no dust." I would venture to say most of us don't read and study our Bibles as much as we should. I know I don't. That's something I need to put more focus on and make it s priority, because it is important.
"Maybe peace on earth" could be what God wants. If we all showed more love and understanding to others, this would be a great start. If we all treated others how we want to be treated, it would be a great start.
The greatest thing we could ever give to God is our life and our soul. He wants us all to go to Heaven. He wants us all to be his children, but it's up to us to make that decision. We can never repay God for everything he's done for us, but we can live for him. We can be an example to others. We can live our lives in a way that glorifies him. We always make sure that our wants are satisfied. Why don't we ever think about what God wants?
"What God Wants For Christmas"
Old man playing Santa Claus
Blew into town with old Jack Frost
Now he's handing out candy canes and smiles for free
People scurry with their lists
Rushing around to buy those gifts that will
End up wrapped up underneath the tree
I'm sitting at this red light looking at a manger scene
Watching snowflakes kiss that baby
And it makes me think
I wonder what God wants for Christmas
Something that you can't find in a store
Maybe peace on Earth, no more empty seats in church
Might be what's on His wishlist
I wonder what God wants for Christmas
What do you give someone
Who gave His only Son
What if we believe in Him
Like He believes in us
I wonder what God wants for Christmas
What might put a smile on His face
Every Bible with no dust, the devil giving up
Might be what's on His wishlist
I wonder what God wants for Christmas
What kind of gift from you and me
More sister, more brother, more lovin' one another
Yeah I wonder, I wonder what God wants
By now we oughta know what God wants for Christmas
