What Gives Me Strength

And no I am not talking about the Superman kind of strength.

What Gives Me Strength
Matthew Brtek

There are many things that give me strength, and no I am not talking about the "Superman" kind of strength. I am talking about being mentally and emotionally strong, having a strong heart and mind.

The main and most important thing that gives me strength is God. My faith in God gives me courage to wake up each day, and be the best me I can be for his glory. Most of you who know me know I was in an awful skiing accident at the age of 15. Doctors say it is a miracle I am still alive. God saved me. He has a purpose for me, and that alone empowers my heart and mind. God is what has given me the strength to push through the pain and misery of that event each and everyday since then. I have strength because I know I live for Him, and He loves me so much he sent his own son to die on my behalf. The faith I have in God leaves me without doubt, and without a fear of failing you can thrive even more. God is the main reason for my strength.

My family and friends also give me strength. Their encouragement and love can make me feel as though I can do anything. Having a great support group does wonders in giving someone the strength they need to be a great person and live a wonderful life. Being loved is something that can make a person so happy and sure of themselves, which can lead to a strong heart and mind. Feeling like you have someone there to back you up, allows you to feel secure and gain strength. When you do fall, they help build you right back up. Each instance when this happens, you grow stronger and stronger. Family and friends are a key component in becoming strong.

There are many more things that make me strong, but the last one I am going to tell you about is being a genuinely good and caring person. Having a positive view of myself, and understanding what it means to be a good person and act upon it makes me strong. I have learned in life that being kind in any and all situations takes a lot of strength. It is not easy to be nice to someone who has knocked you down over and over again, but if you are truly strong in your heart and mind you will know to be kind. Often times people say kindness must be earned, but I disagree. You can be kind to those who do not deserve it, and it shows a certain grace and strength about yourself. Being filled with hate only makes life less pleasant. It is not that you are being weak when being kind to those who haven't earned it, you are just being strong enough to not allow such negative feelings into your life. Being able to forgive makes you stronger. I believe that loving everyone, encompassing grace, showing endless kindness, and just being a truly good person can make you stronger than you ever imagined. This strength will lead you to a happier and healthier life.

Smile every chance you get, and indulge yourself in love, faith, and happiness.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
