What Gets You Out Of Bed?

What is your motive in life that gives you purpose?

What Gets You Out Of Bed?
Victoria Koenig

“A reason for doing something, especially one that is hidden or not obvious.” Referring to research, this is what a motive is. But in-depth, a motive could be so much more, or at least that is what I believe. Each and every one of us has a purpose. To maximize our purpose to its fullest potential we use a motive. Us all being unique individuals we have and use different motives. Often we lose sight of our motives, which can, unfortunately, make us forget what our purpose is. But this is one of the many reasons that makes life so beautiful.

Day by day, from the moment we are born, the things that get us through are constantly changing. But our purpose remains the same. Though we can never be certain what our purpose is, we deep down know that we all have one. Sometimes some people neglect, forget, or even push away their purpose. Sadly even less of these people will never regain the knowledge of their meaning in this so called life. We all need to be a helping hand to one other and remind us all what we are here for. Even if we don’t know. Let’s always remember and remind.

We can often become lost. Forgetting what gets us going in life. If this happens, you need to remember, your highlights will always return again. They come and go for a reason. But this is why we need to try new things. We need to engage with one another, we need to try new food, we need to listen to new music, meet unfamiliar people and travel to unfamiliar places. I’m not saying we all need to jump into the water, but we all need to at least dip our toes. Because you never know what you may find, and you never know what you might actually like.

My motive was always changing, and it could still be changing without me knowing. The neatest thing about motives is you can have multiple. They can range and vary from things such as your family and friends, your work ethic, your hobbies, or really anything. For me, I find other people’s work of art and literature so inspiring. Rupi Kaur is one the reasons I aspired to become a more intellectual and deep writer. She is the reason that made me want to push and publish some of my work when I made my personal blog over a year ago now. Because writing is something that makes my heart beat faster, especially when I’m letting someone else read it for the very first time. Writing is one of my many motives, and it helps me find purpose. In many ways it makes me feel as if I’m giving others purpose. Not that I know I actually am, but I’m only hoping.

Learning about what gets others out of bed each morning is so intriguing. Because this world is so large and everyone is different. It’s almost as if our motives are our own little cultures. And we are all lucky enough to be surrounded by the people we were meant to be surrounded by, and we get to have a taste of their own little personal cultures. Constantly engaging with one another, gaining new knowledge every day about different things and information about our loved ones. Let’s start connecting our motives with our purpose. What is your motive?

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
