They each have something to teach us.

What 'Friends' Taught Us
playbuzz

Six twenty-somethings that share an inseparable bond and always have each other's backs. Quirky, different, and nowhere near perfect, but they possess admirable qualities that have something to teach us.

Chandler

To be funny and awkward.

Chandler uses his dry sense of humor as a way to cope with life's harsh realities. He reminds us to never take life too seriously. Although he seems immature, he is very responsible and hardworking. His charming sense of humor even managed to win over Monica and despite his commitment issues he becomes a devoted husband and father.

Monica

To be the over-achiever.

Always seeking approval from her friends because she never got any from her parents growing up. She works (sometimes too hard) at everything she does. Very competitive and extremely driven. She is the responsible friend that everyone can rely on. Her passion for cooking led her to absolutely love her career as a chef. She ultimately teaches us that working hard pays off and if you do what you love you will be happy and successful.

Joey

To embrace your inner child.

Joey has a pretty-boy charm that he uses to his advantage. Even though his acting career is unpredictable and he is always trying out for ridiculous roles, he always keeps a positive happy attitude. He seems to go through life with no real knowledge or understanding of the real world, like a child would. Although oblivious, he is always happy. He teaches us to never lose our child-like sense of wonder and sometimes ignorance truly is bliss.

Phoebe

To be unapologetically weird.

Phoebe has one of the most questionable pasts, but despite her rough upbringing she is the most lighthearted and genuine friend. She is very flighty and spiritual and has no desire for material things, as long as she has her guitar and friends. She doesn't let her past define her, she walks to the beat of her own drum and she is loved for being different. She ultimately teaches us to be ourselves and our true friends will love us anyway.

Ross

To make mistakes and learn from them.

Ross has made plenty of mistakes from his three divorces, and the infamous "we were on a break”, he clearly has a repetitive cycle of making poor decisions, or just simply screwing things up. Despite all of this, he always knows how to move on instead of falling apart. He teaches us that mistakes are simply a part of life and are bound to happen. There's nothing to do but learn from it and move on with a positive attitude.

Rachel

To be independent.

Rachel ran away on her wedding day, narrowly escaping a horrible marriage and was cut off from her father. She had never truly been on her own and rather than taking the easy way by going back to her cozy life, she chooses the hard way and starts from scratch. With the help of her friends, she moves to the city, cuts up her cards, and gets a job. Even though she was a terrible barista with no real skill, she persists until she lands her dream career. In taking this path, she discovers her real friends and her real self.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
