Incoming freshmen will realize once they get on a college campus, a lot of things are different. Here's a list of things that they'll need to learn by the end of freshman year.

1. Meeting new people

If you go to a college that none of your friends attends, you are going to need to learn how to make new friends. That awkward shyness you may possess will need to be gotten over if you actually want to meet people instead of being in your dorm all day. You will also need to know that most of the people on the campus are not like your friends at home. Depending on where they grew up, they may see the world a little differently than you so be careful how you try to start a conversation.

2. Distractions

The big difference between college and high school is you do not have to go to class. Though it may be a blessing when you don't feel like going to class, staying on track with classes and actually showing up is key if you want to pass or you will end up flunking out of college your first semester. Also, parties and other things can distract you from class work and may cause you to procrastinate. Procrastination is not always a bad thing but you REALLY need to stay on top of your assignments.

3. Naps

You may have hated them as a kid, but in college these are key. They will give you that midday energy boost after morning classes and help you get through the rest of the day. When you eventually pull an all nighter to finish an assignment you will DEFINITELY need one, or you will be looking and feeling like a zombie all day. But when you take a nap, set an alarm or you will sleep through everything.

4. Parties

At a small school in a small town, you need to know that these usually get busted. So when attending a party, know an exit plan if something goes down. Also if it is on campus, you are setting yourself up for alcohol confiscation and possible community service. Don't go too overboard at a party either, word can spread quick of you making a fool of yourself.

5. Find Something Else To Do

If you are not a student-athlete or working, you need to find something to do or you'll be extremely bored. Video games, working out, Netflix, are good things to occupy your time. Even a hobby like writing or building things are something you can do. What I am trying to say is, don't bore yourself to death.

6. Roommates

You'll need to learn to share your stuff. Don't be stingy because you may need help from them sometime. Also, this may be the first time you have ever had to share a small room with someone. Conflicts will come up, you're gonna need to learn how to get over those and not overreact to little things being moved or something missing in the room. Simply asking your roommate if they borrowed something or moved something will avoid a lot of possible fights.

7. "Know your role and shut your mouth"

You probably knew this point was coming. You're a freshman, don't get too big-headed or cocky, or you'll be knocked down to earth really quick. Your presence already annoys seniors, sometimes for no good reason, but calm down and know your place on the food chain.

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
