One factor that plagues society is based on the way information is received. This problem stems from media biases within the media itself. Notably, from the top tier news sources to the bottom of the ladder, a bias exists, whether it intentional one or not. As humans, it is out of our control to choose whether or not we make these biases or form our opinions and critique based on them. This behavior manifests itself at a young age as we watch the news with adults, hear it on the radio, and currently, we have social media news sources that also contribute and forms a base for a thought to stem from. Different news sources have a tendency to be bias in the way or format in which they report information. Sometimes targeting an audience that will most likely agree with them and show their support for the reporter or news station via social media.

This has been prominent throughout news sources on the television as the election closely approaches. Events such as the GOP debate, Democratic National Convention, Republican National Convention, and national addresses from the president and candidate, are just a few to name that sparked various opinions, criticism, and rants from news sources of different statuses. Information was distributed via social media outlets, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and TV. As stated before, some of these sources try their best to not seem bias or state an opinion or take a side, but it usually happens or it is subliminally inserted. Allowing mass media to distribute information this way will only go too far and will become familiar to the different types of media. It’s best to say that one should take everything with a grain of salt.

Implementing some type of regulation policy on news sources would be an excellent first step. The journalists, editors, and editors in chief of news source shouldn’t be strictly democrat or republican. This will create half democrat and half republican in one work space. This way the news sources will be able to cover both sides of an issue or event and allow viewers to interpret, analyze, and form their opinions. I believe that this will eventually bring a little unity to our country when it comes to politics and how it is reported by the mass media.

There are many factors that play a role in the way the mass media reports information regarding certain issues or events. This plague isn’t limited to any news sources and it isn’t classified due to status or ranking. Biases are made by all news sources. Implementing regulation and allowing viewers to analyze the information themselves and form their own opinions. Doing this will eventually bring unity and kill media propaganda and the biases that circulate throughout the media contemporarily.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
