What Every Horse Owner Understands

Horses can be a dream or a night "mare"... or both!

What Every Horse Owner Understands

Whenever you talk about the horse world to people who are not familiar with it, they simply cannot relate. No matter how many times I tell people that a pony is NOT a baby horse, they will never get it. Usually, it is easier to talk to my 2000 pound best friend than it is to talk to people. So here are some things that every horse owner can understand! The dreams and night "mares" in the life of a horse owner.

1. Barn dirt is not the same as regular dirt

Yes, we go straight from the barn to eating food without a second thought about washing our hands. It's who we are, take it or leave it.

2. That feeling when you walk into the barn

Walking into the barn is like going home after being gone for a long time. It's that sense of home and comfort and the welcoming by the neighs of those you love most.

3. How your legs feel after a long ride

After a five-hour trail ride, your legs will feel as if they are jello. Try your best not to fall down!

4. That feeling when you see a plastic bag before your horse does

Seeing a plastic bag before your horse does is like seeing a wreck before it happens. Yes, a 2000 pound animal is scared of a plastic bag.

5. How your butt looks after riding bareback

It doesn't matter what time of the year, your butt is destined to look like this if you ride bareback.

6. Shedding season

It will look like you killed a small animal after brushing your horse during shedding season

7. Being stereotyped

Oh, so controlling a one-ton animal while on it's back isn't a sport? Hahahaha. If only they understood....

8. Horse kisses are the best kisses

There is something special about horse kisses. It cannot be explained in words, if you're a horse person, you know what I mean.

9. They can be quite moody... especially ponies

Non-horse people see tiny and adorable creatures. Horse people see little spawns of satan.

10. Losing your balance (and dignity) and falling off

It is inevitable. Whether you have been riding for two years or are a 30-year veteran, you will fall off... more than once... and it will hurt.

11. The love between a horse and owner

Horses can be a huge pain mentally and physically. But at the end of the day, the love between you and your horse makes it worth the pain and dirt.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
