Last week, I wrote about aspects of high school I miss. To go along with the same theme, I will now discuss what I don't miss about high school!
1. Six Hours Of Class.
I'm not sure how I ever made it through six hours of class a day, five days a week. Kudos to those high schoolers who are still stuck in the grind. Believe me, three hours of class (sometimes less) is far, far better.
2. Dress Code.
I was never one of the dress code violators, but I still thought most parts of it were pointless. I know I'm not the only one who thinks this way because dress code issues have been all over social media. The great thing about college is that no one cares! Show up to your 8am in pajamas if you wish.
3. Mandatory Assemblies.
These were especially awful by the time senior year rolled around. No, I really don't need to hear the back-to-school spiel for the fourth year in a row. Assemblies were a battle between talkative high schoolers and stern staff. No matter how hard the high schoolers tried, the staff always won.
4. Traffic.
Getting out of school on time was a nightmare. The student parking lot would get backed up. Traffic on the main road would be crawling at the school speed limit of 15 mph. On Fridays, students had the bright idea of honking their horns in a celebratory manner. In college, I'm just a short walk away from my dorm at the end of the day. No traffic!
5. Cliques.
In high school, you're sort of stuck. By the time you get to your freshman year, you've already been going to school with the same people for several years. Things are pretty established by then. You know who's "cool" and who's not. People in college are a lot more friendly and willing to help. It's easy to meet new people!
College is definitely more academically challenging than high school, but it's balanced out by the lack of what I mentioned above!
