I recently watched a news story on a man who was walking out of his house in the snow to get his mail when he slipped on ice. The man had broken his back and was unable to get up. The man's dog noticed the his distress and went outside and laid on the man all night to keep him warm and kept licking his face to keep him conscious. The dog was howling all night until a neighbor heard and eventually called the man an ambulance. The man made a full recovery.
So I ask the question, what did we do to deserve dogs?
Dogs are known as man's best friend. Some people may even go as far to say that dogs are our given guardian angels.
Dogs are full of personality, just like humans. Every dog I have ever has had a very different personality.
Dogs become irreplaceable parts of our lives. This is my dog, Maddi. She is the most spoiled, sassy dog I have ever had, but she is still my girl. She licks my face when I cry and cuddles up next to me when I'm feeling down. She is unlike any other dog. I got Maddi when I was around 8 years old. I am now 19 years old and I have grown up with her by my side. Everyday in grade school she would sleep by me on the couch and she sleeps in my bed at night. I have literally had her though my whole life it seems. When I say she is sassy I literally mean the sassiest, princess of a dog you can think of. She is such a brat. If she's not comfortable in her sleeping position she will jack-rabbit kick you. Like a full on kick. This dog is nuts. She gets in the trash, pees in the house, but none of that matters at the end of the day when she cuddles up next to me.
Dogs love you just the way you are.
You will never hear of a dog being judgmental or not wagging their tail at someone because they don't like their outfit or they think they are ugly. Dogs love unconditionally. I think we can all learn a little something from dogs. Don't judge someone by their outer appearance, just love them.
You are a dog's whole life. While you are out living your life, your dog is waiting for you to get home. You are their everything. They miss you as soon as you leave them. If that is not the cutest thing ever, then don't talk to me.
The first time I came home from college, Maddi attacked me with licks and angry barks that could only be "Where have you been!?" in Schnauzer language. She may be 11 years old, but she is still full of energy like a puppy; she just needs an extra dog nap or two.
So love your dogs, because we really don't deserve them, but we are blessed to have them anyway.
