College can be rough, especially trying to learn the ropes in the beginning. It wasn’t easy but it wasn’t as bad as I thought. Here’s what I learned about college so far.
1. It’s a trial and error process.
Finding the best way for me to study and manage my time, making a schedule that works for me was definitely found through trial and error.
2. Tuition covers more than you think.
I’ve learned college gives you a lot of resources and you would be very silly to not take advantage of them.
3. College isn't always papers, quizzes and tests.
College is meant to be fun, but it isn’t all fun and games, and you can’t forget the reason you’re there. I dropped a class my first semester, and I was devastated having to do so, not realizing immediately it was the best choice for me. That’s something you need to know for college: you have to do what’s best for you and make decisions based on what you want.
4. Do what's best for your academic career.
If you want to change your major, go for it, If you want to transfer to a different school, make it happen. No matter what you do, just make sure it’s for your best interest.
5. Follow the wise words of Wiz Khalifa.
Work hard play hard, don’t forget to make friends and socialize, take breaks so you don’t lose your marbles. I learned that the hard way.
6. Help is available sans embarassment.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help, or lighten your load. Don’t go crazy trying to do more than what you’re able to. Thankfully, I had some pretty great friends who really helped by first semester of school go by smoothly. I had some rough patches, but they also had them as well and we rallied behind each other. We all had the same goal, to get through it. The people I surrounded myself with made a huge difference, as well as the attitude we all had to push each other to succeed. College has taught me with the right mindset and the right people around you, you can succeed. It won’t always be easy, but it’ll always be possible.
