What College Students Are Thankful For

I am not only speaking for myself when I say that "I can't wait for Thanksgiving break to go home." College students all around America are all counting down the days until this week is finally over to go home for the holiday. For some students, this is their first time since August coming home. It really is something to look forward to. This break is much needed, especially with finals coming up shortly after the break. When it gets pitch black outside by 5 o'clock, all we really want to do is crawl up and sleep away all our problems until we can finally take the train back home. Here are the top reasons why we NEED Thanksgiving break to come..

1. REAL food

Eating the same, boring food each day can get old very quick. Turkey. Cranberry sauce. Stuffing. Green bean casserole. Sweet potato casserole. Cornbread. These are just some of the foods that make college students so excited to return home.A holiday which is centered around all different types of delicious home cooked meals is something us college student are very thankful for.

2. SLEEP

Sleep. I never realized how much sleep I used to get back home compared to the multiple all-nighters I had here in my school's library. We will all return home looking like we came out of the apocalypse and return back to campus looking nice and recharged. I certainly am thankful to be back in my room in the comfort of my own home.

3. Family

Going away to school and moving out of the house really allowed me to open my eyes and cherish my family. I am so excited to see my parents and sister again for more than just a weekend. There truly is no place like home. I am beyond thankful to be back home with my family and to spend nice quality time which we haven't had in months. Also, it will be nice to see my relatives, cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents who I have not seen since August and catch up with them.

4. My pets

There really is nothing like a person's bond with their pet. My poor dog may think I abandoned her when I left her in August, but to both of our delights, we will soon be reunited in a few days. Studies have shown that dogs can be big stress relievers, and after these intense few months of college, a nice cuddle with my favorite furry friend is much needed.

5. Reuniting with my friends

Although I feel like I am up to date with my friends due to social media and group chats, nothing beats that feeling of knowing all your friends are home for the break and it can finally go back to old times. Personally, I cannot wait to see my best friends and just hangout and drive around aimlessly and talk for hours and not get bored. I can't wait to see them and just give them the biggest hugs.

6. Black Friday Shopping

With Thanksgiving over, comes Christmas, and I am so looking forward to getting those amazing Black Friday deals. In my house it's a tradition to go shopping at 12 o'clock, and I am so excited to do it again with my family.

7. Realization that this semester is ALMOST over.

All the hard work we have been doing is almost finally done, and once we come back from Thanksgiving the countdown to a month free of work and a new semester begins.. but let's not forget with the semester almost over, finals are just beginning..

So, college students, take your break to de-stress and spend quality time with family and friends. It truly is something to be thankful for.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
