A College Kid's Christmas List

As we grow, our needs and wants change. If you ask a 5 year old what they want for Christmas, they will probably say a doll or some Legos. If you ask a college student, they will probably say socks.

1. Socks

No matter how hard we try, the dryer always seems to steal the one sock from your favorite pair. Not both. JUST. ONE. How am I supposed to channel my inner Tom Cruise with just one sock?

2. Lots and lots of home cooked Christmas leftovers.

Aunt Shelly's hash brown casserole > ramen. Really anything > ramen.

3. Loan forgiveness.

At least give us some Black Friday deals or something. Come on, get in the spirit. (you could probably find this on our parents' wish list too)

4. Alcohol.

Now I may not be old enough to drink, but I'm speaking for my legal friends here. It doesn't have to be some $200 champagne, boxed wine and Natty is just fine.

5. A GPA boost.

Unless you have a 4.0, I think we could all use a little help. Dr. Nelson, if you are reading this, I'm talking to you. Help a sister out.

6. For McDonald's to get a new ice cream machine.

If we're being honest, this is on every ice cream lover's Christmas list.

7. No 8 AMs.

You signed up for an 8 AM thinking you could do it, when in reality you can barely make it to a 10 AM.

8. For your sports teams to be good.

Not everyone cares about sports, but for those of us who do, it feels so much better knowing that you're cheering for a bada** team.

9. That it's all worth it.

Especially for the seniors. All of the long hours, huge projects, typing until your fingers cramped, not to mention the money. Knowing that it's all going to pay off makes it just a little bit easier.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
