Lately, I've been seeing memes about high school teachers vs. college professors. It makes the college profs out to be a joke that don't take things seriously. I just have one question: where are these people going to college?
At my University, my profs don't just leave class because they feel like going home. In fact, I had a prof that came to class after he had gotten into a car accident earlier that morning! I wish they canceled class more often and we got extensions on assignments and papers as a result, but that's just not the truth.
Cell phones are another classroom issue. I have only had a handful of profs that let the students use their cell phones in class. Most of them think it's disrespectful and prohibit use while class is in session. Some will go as far as dropping your grade and kicking you out of class if you're caught on one.
Quizzes are also something that profs actually use. A large majority of the classes I've taken have had quizzes associated with them. And they aren't usually easy. I wish I went to one of these imaginary colleges where the quiz is always canceled the day it's scheduled for because the prof wasn't prepared.
Papers are the real deal. I would highly recommend Grammarly for anyone going into college because the profs will tear your papers limb from limb. You'll come out of an upper-level English class unsure of whether you ever knew how to write in the first place.
Studying is not a myth. People that tell you they never study and are still getting A's in all of their classes are lying. The tests in college cover so much material it is impossible not to study at all. One or more textbooks are covered in a 15-week time frame. If there's a college where no studying is required for all that material, can I transfer there?
College is not easy like some people are trying to say it is. With articles about high school teachers being tougher than college profs circulating, young adults headed into college won't be prepared for what lies ahead of them. Even though it's a rough few years of life, it's so worth it in the end.
