You may be thinking, "Wow, this girl is in college and doesn't even know what it is." but that's not what that question means. College is so much more than just something after school. I asked a few friends and adults what college meant to them and this was the response I received:
"Self improvement and freedom."
College is most people's first full-time away from their family. You have more freedom now than ever. With more freedom comes more responsibility, this is where the self improvement comes in. You don't have to be the same person you were in high school.
"Being a parent that's in college."
A few of you are parents in the midst of attending college. I don't know how they do it, but they do and I applaud them. These students have to look past just Friday nights.
"Figuring who you are as an individual and determining your character."
Like I said previously, you don't have to be the same person you've always been. This is your chance to complete recreate yourselves, if that's what you want to do. College is full of different people. Don't confine yourself to something or someone you've always had to be.
"Experiences. Literally sums it up in one word."
College is also full of different experiences and opportunities. Go get drunk. Go skydiving. Join a club. Experiences. Literally sums it up in one word. Go out on dates. Go to parties. Go to football games. Make new friends. Maybe not all at the same time, but go do things you've never done. Your parents aren't around anymore. Grow up and make your own decisions of what you want to do with your time. (But don't lose respect for mom and dad.)
College is more than just more school after high school graduation. It's something to look back on and laugh at how stupid you acted one (or more) night. To look back on the friends you made (and lost). This is the only time in our lives that we will be in a town with mostly people our age. Appreciate the time here, and make as many memories as you can.
