What Christmas Means to Me

Christmas has a different meaning to everyone, but to me this is what it means.

Christmas is something different for everyone, but to me there are two things that are important this holiday season! Those two things are Jesus and my family.

Jesus is important because this whole season is for Him! We celebrate Christmas in honor of Jesus' birthday. It isn't about the presents or the fat man with a white beard that comes down your chimney on December 24th, it is about the birth of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Okay, yes, I will admit, getting presents at Christmas time is nice, but that is not what the season is all about. The season is about giving and giving back to your community. If at all possible I challenge each and everyone of you who reads this to go out into your community this holiday season and give back to those in need. Not everyone has it as good as you do, so go help those who are less fortunate. My mother and I have a tradition that every year we go and feed a homeless person who is on the side of the road. We cannot do much ourselves, but if we can help one person be less hungry this holiday season we are happy to do it.

The other thing that is important to me during the holiday season is family. I love my family with all my heart. I do not really get to see a lot of my family that much because I am school all the time and they have their own lives and families to worry about. The holidays are the only time we can all get together as a family and celebrate. It is a big deal when my family gets together because we have a lot of great grandkids now so it is fun being able to see how much they have grown since the last time I had seen them.

During this holiday season do not forget the true meaning of Christmas. If you do not get what you want this year, just appreciate what you did get and don't dwell on the things you didn't. Enjoy your family and make sure you give back!

Merry Christmas Everyone!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
