What Christmas Means To Me

It Is The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

What Christmas Means To Me

Everyone is running around in stores trying to find just the perfect gift to buy while I stand in the mix of it all wondering that isn't Christmas supposed to be about more than the presents?

Presents are a nice part of Christmas and not just receiving them. Watching someone open a present from you is always a special moment. It always gives me a warm feeling watching someone open a present from me and it definitely my favorite part.

People have taken presents to far by worrying more about expensive presents instead of spending time with their families. Shopping for Christmas Presents has become more draining and expensive than it should be.

Christmas is not about Coach purses or huge flat screen TV's or an expensive game system. People shouldn't feel as if they have to drain their bank account just to make someone happy. No one should risk their life being pushed around people in a store for an outrageously priced item.

To me, Christmas means spending time with family and friends. Surround yourself with people that love you and remind you of how loved you are. Have Christmas parties with your family and share cheer throughout your community.

Christmas is about love and compassion. Always make sure that the people surrounding you always have enough and not make it a competition of who has more. Have compassion for the people that have had a rough year, faced unwanted obstacles and are having to celebrate Christmas without the family members that they lost in the past year.

Everyone has at least one person that they care about and want to make happy on Christmas Day. Christmas is about making people happy. Who ever said that we had to give expensive gifts to make people happy?

Christmas Day is the one day people have to sit around the Christmas tree with their loved ones and not stress about work or school. Everyone is not lucky to have all of their family around them and the people that are lucky, should cherish them. Cherish every family member, every smile, every laugh and every photograph.

So if you are feeling stressed this Christmas, remember that the best gift that you can give someone is time with their family.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
