If you have ever wanted to watch “Agents of SHIELD”, now is the best time to get onboard. The conclusion of the fourth season has raised a few questions, mostly questions about that last few minutes.
If you have not watch the season finale, there are SPOILERS ahead.
The season started off very strong with the inclusion of Robbie Reyes and Ghost Rider, a move that was rather bold for the show. Then that storyline paved the way for the LMDs and the very driven Aida. It was their way of tying in to the mystic side presented when “Doctor Strange” was released. As far as tie-ins go, it was sub-par. The best tie-in occurred when “Captain America: Winter Soldier” was released, as the effects of that film are still being felt within the show.
However, the mystical side was the driving force of the season with the Darkholde, the book that paved away for everything that happened.
Where does this leave us for the Inhuman royal family?
Well, with the team in space, it leaves them out of the action and gives them a perfect excuse for not interfering. After all, the Inhumans have become a staple of the show, with a few of the main characters being Inhumans themselves.
Whether we will see these two shows crossover is yet to be determined. We do know that after “Inhumans” finishes airing, “Agents of SHIELD” will premiere its fifth season, presumably to deal with the aftermath of the Framework and Aida’s actions.
But, they will deal with coming back from space. This is where the fun speculation begins.
They are basically kidnapped towards the end, with Coulson peering out the window of a space station and taking it all in stride (truthfully, it is not the weirdest thing he has ever encountered).
The question we are presented with is: who kidnapped the team?
My first guess, even before the space station was revealed, was S.W.O.R.D. There are few agencies that could fit and exist in the same universe.
This organization first appeared in “Astonishing X-Men” during the Joss Whedon/John Cassaday run. The organization is like SHIELD in that it is an intelligence and counterterrorism agency, but one that deals with extraterrestrial threats.
This seems to be angling to align more with the events of the next Avengers film with the culmination of the Thanos storyline. As huge as an event as this is supposed to be, if this is the direction they go, then it would not be surprising.
What would be surprising is if they can actually utilize this because of its origins in an X-Men comic, a franchise we all know that Fox is unwilling to relinquish. However, the loophole could be that it was created by Whedon, who is still the showrunner for “Agents of SHIELD”. But, it is not like Marvel Entertainment and FOX have been entirely cold to one another. This year’s “Legion” was produced in part by both.
Seeing the inclusion of more aliens and Abigail Brand would undoubtedly be very cool, and I think it is a direction that they are willing to take. Ghost Rider was a huge risk, but it was a risk that paid off extremely well. Whether they will keep with the darker tone is unknown, but if they keep with the level of quality, then they could probably run with any storyline that they want.
