The truth on Black Lives Matter.

What Black Lives Matter Is
National Review

When describing the organization, Black Lives Matter, it gets several different opinions. To some it is a great organization that is standing up to anti-police brutality and the American system that oppresses minorities. Some also think of the group as violent, racist, and anti-police. Then there are some who think that it is an organization that only marches when police shootings happen. On the outside, when someone hears the phrase "Black Lives Matter", it is interpreted as ONLY Black lives matter, which prompts a "All Lives Matter" response. I will admit when I first heard about it that was my initial response, but when I actually researched what the movement stands for I was very misinformed. Black Lives Matter does not mean only black lives matter, it means black lives matter too. It is a call to action and a response to racism. A lot of the organization's media coverage shows when there are anti-police brutality protests. A common misconception about their fight against anti-police brutality means that they are anti-police. Black Lives Matter is not anti-police. Why would the group be anti-police when there are officers who actually stand with organization? Along with that, the organization wants to work with officers who want to help bring change in the country. Those who see the movement as violent is based on what they see on television. In Ferguson and Baltimore, there were riots and those the media associated those riots with Black Lives Matter. Black Lives Matter was not responsible for the riots as they protested peacefully before the riots broke out. It is a problem when black people riot over being fed up with the justice system, but when white people riot over a sports game it is okay. Black Lives Matter has been falsely portrayed in the public sphere but it is necessary that each and every person researches what the movement is about for themselves.

We Heart It

Over the past decade, television has undergone a very crucial transition: the incorporation of female lead characters. Without these characters, women would still be sitting in the background of our favorite shows. These women are not only trailblazers for female empowerment, but role models for women worldwide.
