In recent events, President Trump signed an executive order that placed a stay on refugees from seven Muslim-majority countries worldwide. Along with that, the entrance of Syrian refugees to the United States will be banned for the next 120 days. President Trump also recently announced the United States would be building a wall along Mexico's border. He stated that Mexican imports would be taxed twenty percent to pay for the wall.
For Christians, building a wall and not allowing refugees entrance to the United States seems immoral. The Bible declares the responsibility to treat strangers, and refugees, with dignity and hospitality.
Here are 7 passages that examine the way Christians should treat those in need, refugees, and immigrants:
1. Leviticus 19:33-34
"Do not take advantage of foreigners who live among you in your land. Treat them like native-born Israelites, and love them as you love yourself. Remember that you were once foreigners living in the land of Egypt. I am the Lord your God."
2. 1 Corinthians 12:12-13
"The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit."
3. Deuteronomy 10:18-19
"He ensures that orphans and widows receive justice. He shows love to the foreigners living among you and gives them food and clothing. So you, too, must show love to foreigners, for you yourselves were once foreigners in the land of Egypt.4. Malachi 3:5
“At that time I will put you on trial. I am eager to witness against all sorcerers and adulterers and liars. I will speak against those who cheat employees of their wages, who oppress widows and orphans, or who deprive the foreigners living among you of justice, for these people do not fear me,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies."5. Job 31:32
"I have never turned away a stranger but have opened my doors to everyone."
6. Exodus 23:9
“You must not oppress foreigners. You know what it’s like to be a foreigner, for you yourselves were once foreigners in the land of Egypt."
