What, Exactly, Best Friends Are For

If you have more than one, that's when you know you're lucky.

What, Exactly, Best Friends Are For
Nakonu

When I first met you, I honestly didn't know you were going to be this important to me.

That's what we all say, right? But in the midst of it all, through trials, triumphs, and even heartbreak we all have at least one best friend that we can count on. Best friends can be made anywhere in some of the most random places, but regardless when the friendship grows the end result can be something magical. So to my best friend, thank you for standing by me when times got hard and for making me laugh when I didn't even know how to smile. Best friends are supposed to be there for each other. They help in times of need and can be called on 24/7 when we can't sleep.

It's because of them that we laugh a little harder, cry a little less, and smile a lot more. They will help you finish up your work last minute and cover for you when you need an excuse to get away from home. It's always the little things that count and we stick up for each other. We may not be able to see each other all the time, but our friendship doesn't need to. Instead, we can just send funny faces to each other and keep our snap streak alive. We're okay with not having a conversation all the time. Sometimes true friendship is when you walk into their house and the wifi connects automatically! But despite all the memes, snapchats, and phone calls to you, I know that you will always be there for me forever and always. I can count on that and that's what matters most.

So if someone breaks my best friends heart, you better believe that I'm going to have their back. Your problems are my problems and I will go through them with you. Best friends fight for you, respect you, include you, encourage you, need you, deserve you, and stand by you forever. Best friends are to have adventures with you and have never ending memories. No one is as entertained by us, as us. That's what makes this friendship so great. While we may have our disagreements, I know that you would still have my back and our competitiveness with each other is what makes us, us.

Things are never quite as scary when I'm with you. I admit that sometimes we can be bad influences on each other, but if we ever get in trouble just remember that you're deaf and I can't speak English! Our plan for us to bail one another out of jail might not work if we are in jail together, but I wouldn't want to be in jail with anyone else. Because being best friends is a promise, not a label. And despite all the odds of having 1 universe, 9 planets, 204 counties, and 7 seas, we still were able to find each other and that's a privilege I will never take for granite.

After all, what are best friends for?

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
