Ad∙ven∙tur∙ous (adj): willing to take risks or to try out new methods, ideas, or experience.
I certainly hate to admit it, but I will not be the person you see volunteering to go cliff jumping or skydiving, anytime soon. That is what a lot of people being adventurous entails. If you are not an adrenaline junkie, the next nickname for you is scaredy cat, and we all know that was a big insult as a child. You do not have to do something death defying to earn your adventure title.
Being adventurous is something totally different, in my eyes. It means going out of your comfort zone, all together. Going out of that zone is a whole new journey. It means taking a spontaneous road trip with your friends for a football game. You never know where that one weekend trip to Miami might take you. It means belting a Taylor Swift song with pride at a karaoke bar with everyone staring at you, but it's okay because T-Swift told you to, "shake it off."
The uncertainty and anxiety of life after college will be a new adventure for so many because it becomes a whole new chapter in your life. Each chapter will always bring many adventures whether they are big or small. You might move to a big city or a different coast without knowing anyone, forcing you to communicate with strangers outside of your comfort zone.
To be adventurous means to take a chance on love and embrace the good and the bad moments that can come from it. If you never take that adventure with someone you will never know what a consuming love can feel like. An adventure happens when you make mistakes, but then learn from them. The definition clearly states a willingness to try some new experience or idea is being adventurous, and any type of relationship brings that definition to fruition.
Lastly, to be adventurous also means to be alone. I don't mean alone, as in a dark place of depression or the lady with 27 cats. I mean the independent alone where you take the risks you want to take. These are the adventures you would enjoy just by yourself and that are special to you. You do not have to prove your adventurous side to anyone because you know how many adventures you have already been on. And who knows, maybe one day skydiving will be an option, but for now my adventurous side is pretty happy.
