Remember that special collage you made out of macaroni in preschool? Even if you don't, that project was one of your first official pieces of art.
Thou ART an artist already, right? Well, some may disagree and have a different perspective of what art is. Some of you may believe that art is made on a canvas such as the Scream or the Mona Lisa, or made with carved stone such as the Thinker. Of course, art is made through performing as well, such as theater, instrumental music, and chorus.
But art does not have to be made in an art class. Each day, I see it expressed in all sorts of tasks, objects, and even thoughts.
For instance, think about the way we all dress up. Some of us like to mix our colors, while others like to pair patterns and prints that can go well together. We like to wear our art by dressing up the way we want. It does not only show our outer beauty as individuals, but it also gives a glimpse of our inner beauty: Confidence.
The way we feel as a person can be an art as well. The way we act, think, and feel is not only useful onstage. It allows us to communicate with others, listen to our peers, notice their inner thoughts through body language, and choose and refuse the ways we respond.
As a result of these events, we begin to form larger bonds with a certain number of people, young and old, male and female, straight, gay, or trans. Regardless of how different we all are, the friendships we bond are also forms of art because they allow us to interact with an array of various colors, just like in a painting or a collage. Frankly though, I am not just talking about differences in race. I am including differences in gender, orientation, religion, and other traits that shape us for who we are.
But here's another thing to consider. Does all art have to be "good"? In other words, is all art made to benefit the community?
On one hand, art can bring communities together into one core. Examples of these instances include festivals, parties, family gatherings, peaceful protests, and classrooms.
On the other hand, I believe that art is made for individuals to express themselves; nevertheless, art may not always be considered a good thing to the entire human race. Some types of art can help some but hurt others. Examples can include racial slurs, war, ignorance, narcissism. hatred, and genocide.
What I want to primarily focus on is expressing my work of art through the most appropriate colors, depending on the context of the situation or the canvas on the stand. We have the freedom to select a certain idea in our head, a paintbrush to guide our actions, a hammer and chisel to stay grounded, and a pen to make a name for ourselves.
So allow me to leave you with this message: No matter where you choose to go in life, remember that every action, thought, and event is a work of art (in its own way), and we all have the right to create our own work of art.
