What Are You Putting Energy Into?

What are you giving energy to?

This summer I wanted to recognize what I am giving energy to, especially when it comes to the goals that I have set for the summer. In my previous article 'My Summer '19 Goals' I discussed the four goals I have this summer.

My goals included saving more money, building my professional network, writing more, and donating to others.

My day to day looks a little bit like this:

I wake up around 7:00 am, I do my morning routine, I work out (at least three days a week), I network on Instagram and send emails, then I go to work. After work, I typically take my time to write and read, or complete a project I have been working on that day.

I spend time giving my energy to my goals because I know they will benefit me later. When I begin focusing on other things or people that misalign with my goals or my path, I feel myself begin to become less determined and unfocused and I don't see results in what I am looking to grow in.

I believe that energy will feed off of other energies. It is simply the 'Law of Attraction' when you think about it because what you are putting out into the world will attract itself to you.

"Your energy introduces you before you even speak" - unknown

This is true, if I spent most of my time with people who are not into building their career or are more focused on going to movies than the gym, I wouldn't be motivated to focus on those things.

Something I give energy to is being myself in every situation is that I am not one to follow the crowd or seek what others are doing. It doesn't appeal to me.

With that being said, I give energy into being different and authentic to myself. I have never craved acceptance from others. Hence, I attract others who are the same and I attract situations that basically force myself to be on my own doing what comes naturally to me.

Like everything, it is important to know your boundaries in what you are allowing yourself to give energy to. Since I have goals, I put my energy into those goals and I put my energy into them consistently.

What are you putting energy into?

"Don't adapt to the energy in the room. Influence the energy in the room" - unknown.

I like to be aware of the kind of energy I am putting out into the world because I notice the energy of others.

Since I am the kind of person who enjoys being on my own, I seek to exude authenticity, honesty, integrity, and compassion.

With this, I become attracted to many people with the same energy that I am accustomed to. It's such an innate action that I barely even notice it because it happens so naturally.

When I connect with someone who has a positive energy that matches my own, I feel most myself. I feel aligned with who God intends for me to be.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
