What Are You Chasing?

When we obsess over worldly things that are out of our control, it makes us act out of control.

What Are You Chasing?

We all have to admit it. We let worldly things define who we are. We let likes define our status. We let grades determine our intelligence. We let money define our success. We let our boyfriend or girlfriend decide our maturity. We let friends define our morals. We let our appearance define who we are. We let our major or career determine our passions. We are constantly chasing worldly things and letting them define us.

What are you chasing?

But we get pleasure from those worldly things. Instant gratification is something we thrive on. I am saying we here because I am a culprit of this every single day. But, like they say, the first step is admitting it. So ask yourself, “What are you chasing?” Have a sit down with yourself and figure this out.

When we obsess over worldly things that are out of our control, it makes us act out of control.

What are you chasing?

Why don’t we stop chasing worldly things that fill our cup only for a second? Chase things that will fill you up and keep you full. Chasing worldly things is useless; we will be chasing and chasing and chasing forever. It is a constant game of chase where you will never catch up. So why do we chase these things? We are better than this.

Chase humility. Chase gentleness. Chase kindness. Chase love. Chase truth. Chase life. Chase grace. Chase class. Chase passion. Most of all, chase the Lord.

Now, these are the things that make the chase worth it.

Here is where it gets tricky. You can chase these things, but for the wrong reason. Watch out for that. I made the first hurdle of not chasing worldly things. But the second hurdle is chasing something for the apparent benefit. I found myself chasing class, not for myself but for others to see that I am classy.

I was chasing the Lord, not to better my relationship with Him, but to prove to others that I am a cute Christian girl. I was chasing these things to show people what I wanted to appear as, not for myself. This second hurdle can be the hardest, it takes work and time.

“Setting our gaze on Jesus may not bring applause from the world, but it brings the light of God into our souls.”

What are you chasing? Why are you chasing?

At the end of the day, it’s you and God. No one else. Chase purity for the sake of yourself. Chase the truth for your sake. Chase the Lord for you and Him. He wants a relationship with you more than anything.

Gentleness isn’t running from you. Truth isn’t hiding from you. Life isn’t leaving you. It’s not that hard of a chase. The Lord is reaching out to you, helping you finish the race.

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
