What Are The Kardashians Doing For Our Society?

There is more to them than what we see on the surface.

"I love when people underestimate me and then become pleasantly surprised."
— Kim Kardashian-West

It's no secret the Kardashian family is a huge part of our society. They are constantly being shown in the media, like on news channels or articles in The New York Times. Whether it be a story about a new Kardashian baby being born or Kendall Jenner's latest photo shoot, they are undeniably everywhere. But being in the spotlight inevitably attracts some enemies. Thousands of people are strongly against this family and wish they were out of the spotlight for numerous reasons. The main reason why people seem to be anti-Kardashian is because they are "talentless" and "famous for no reason." On the surface, this seems true. There is no labeled box we can put them in because they aren't artists, musicians, actors, etc. But if you dig a little deeper, their presence in our society is actually very important and vital to our futures.

When we think of the Kardashians, we think of Kim's crying face, plastic surgery, big butts, makeup, money, clothes and other materialistic things, but like everything else life has to offer, they are much more than what meets the eye.

Being born into money is not something all of us are privileged with. When you are born into the upper class, things come easier to you; there is no denying that. The Kardashians were able to create their own businesses that flourish, while others that try to do so struggle greatly. They are not like us; they are not a good representation of the majority of our society; they cannot speak for the middle class; they are a part of the 1 percent. But they can teach us a lot of things.

Being famous gives you a unique spotlight, and with that spotlight you can do one of two things: You can be a positive influence to the world around you, or you can use your fame purely for money. What the Kardashians are doing with their fame is an extremely controversial topic. I couldn't honestly give a definitive answer on how I feel about it. Nobody is perfect; I know that people within the family are doing a lot of things wrong, but I can tell you some things that I think they are doing right.

The Kardashian-Jenner clan has taught our modern society that you can be successful by just being yourself. While their reality TV show, "Keeping Up With The Kardashians," can often be considered a bad joke that went on for far too long (like the Trump campaign), they still have viewers and fans. They're making money, and they're on their 11th season.

"I'm proud of myself. I could break and go get all this plastic surgery and get my nose fixed and get lipo or do whatever, but I haven't chosen to do that because I know I'm a great person. I'm pretty damn hot, if you ask me."
— Khloe Kardashian

The Kardashian and Jenner clan is comparable to YouTubers, in my opinion. They are both creating content that is expressing who they are as people, and not necessarily with any talent attached to it (there are obviously exceptions, and I recognize that).

When you are given a platform, it is important to use it wisely, and I think that the the Kardashian family has done that. They are teaching young women to love their bodies and to not be ashamed of it.

"I am empowered by my sexuality. I am empowered by feeling comfortable in my skin. I am empowered by showing the world my flaws and not being afraid of what anyone is going to say about me. And I hope that through this platform I have been given, I can encourage the same empowerment for girls and women all over the world."
— Kim Kardashian-West

I think that it is really important for people to understand that there is more to them than what we see on the surface. A lot of the Kardashian and Jenners actions have positive influences. This family inspires millions of people to be themselves, and that is something that we need in our society. We are constantly told that we are not good enough, and it is really reassuring when someone as beautiful and well-known as Kim Kardashian-West is telling us that we are.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
