What Are We Doing

Plot twist: I have no idea.

What are we doing? Well that is a damn good question. Looking around at some of the people my age, including myself, I think it's safe to say that most of us have no idea. We spent the majority of our lives thinking that we would have everything figured out by now. Plot twist, we don't.

I think one of the big contributing factors to our downfall is the fact that we rely heavily on others to make our decisions for us. With almost every aspect of our life we find ourselves looking to others for their approval. It can be something as little as what kind of phone we get, to something as big as who we should be in a relationship with. I think it really shows how dependent we have become on others. Not even people we know, just people in general.

The main problem in my opinion is how we have stopped being individuals. We have stopped being unique because it is not what society wants from us. You can see it everywhere around us. It hurts to look at. It hurts more to see it happening and knowing that there is nothing you can do to stop it from happening.

As we get older a lot of people start to lose sight of who they were and who they wanted to be when they were younger. Back when we were kids nothing seemed out of our reach. We could be whatever we wanted, be with whoever we wanted, and do whatever we wanted. We can easily get back to that...we just have to stop caring so much.

We need to get back to the "f**k it" mentality that we had when we were kids. You know he one I'm talking about. The same mentality we used when making clearly terrible, but fun decisions. Because back then we didn't think about outcomes. We didn't think we would get shocked before putting a fork in an electrical outlet, but dam it we still did it.

So why not do the same thing today? Why worry about what other people think of the decisions we make? More importantly why should we even care at all? Because at the end of the day, it's usually just us that have to deal with the decisions we make. So what I'm trying to say is that I know we have no idea what we are doing, but why not figure it out for ourselves. Why not go through life with the happy mentality that we used to have. I bet it would be a lot more fun that way.

So if you're reading this, know that none of us have any idea what we are doing. But no matter what you are going through you're gonna get through it. Just take some chances. Take a risk. Because at the end of the day if none of us have any idea what we are doing, maybe nobody will care.

Yours truly,

Ryan Jordan

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
