What Actually Happens When You Live With Someone As Crazy As You Are

An ode to my freshman year roommate.

An ode to my freshman year roommate.

Thank you for being you. Thank you for the laughs, the late nights, the early mornings, the study sessions, the adventures, the cleaning sprees, and the many jam sessions. Thank you for loving me in all my craziness: however, thanks for being equally as crazy. Thank you for making my freshman year so memorable. Between the omelet dates, classes together, rant sessions, dance parties, and those random acts that showed me how much you cared has given me such a unique experience and it will never be replaced.

As we move forward at High Point University, you will always hold a special place in my heart. You were my first roommate who was totally as crazy as I am and I learned to embrace the crazy side, because in the long run we are both pretty flipping awesome. Having you as my roommate and as my friend is a blessing, and we still have many memories to be made.

1. There are no questions asked when you request ice cream at 10 a.m. in the morning.

For some odd reason, we both wake up every morning with sore throats. The only real option is ice cream. Plus, it's something to look forward after a 7:50 a.m. class. Judge us, we ain't caring.

2. Only we would have a dance dedicated to the C-Store Quesadillas.

But seriously, they are good enough where a dance was needed to express our love for the quesadillas.

3. Sometimes it is just better to "laugh it off."

Remember that one time we studied for days, just to get F's on our bio test? Or when we renamed all the instruments used in lab just to make it "more fun?" Or the fact that you really just can't understand your connect homework (who needs French anyways?). Or you use 'root' instead of 'route' (Ry, root is from a tree bud). Or that one day you over slept, your backpack broke, it was pouring rain, you wore flip-flops, and you had a test? Most certainly best to laugh it off.

4. But sometimes you just have to "scream it off" too.

Like when the grill in the C-Store breaks, and we can't get those quesadillas or when the omelet bar is MIA...?

5. You can never have too many dance breaks.

I'm pretty sure only we would prance around with sheets on our heads, dancing to "Phantom of the Opera" or "Shrek the Musical."

6. Late night heart-to-hearts are a daily occurrence.

7. French Vanilla creamer is the key to our success.

This doesn't need an explanation. The fact that it is gone after four days is enough of an explanation.

8. We get so pumped for muffin day.

We be running to those 9:15 a.m. classes. Who doesn't like a free muffin in the morning? I know we do - even if it's banana nut!

9. We can never remember to feed the fish.

Somehow he lasted eight months. Probably because he had the best babysitters during break. We really made some sacrifices for him.

10. Someone earns the nickname “The Garbage Fairy” at some point during the week.

Defined as the one who always takes out the garbage.

11. She supports me 140 percent of the time.

No matter how crazy of a dream you have, she'll be the first one to help you achieve those dreams.

12. There's no doubt in my mind she is one of a kind.

To the roommate that never failed to make me laugh, you are truly one of a kind. Ry, I am so lucky to have you in my life and I cannot wait and see how you will use your unique qualities to further bring your positive energy into this world.

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
