If you grew up in the 2000s, chances are you've seen the movie "What A Girl Wants." This movie is full of little life lessons, for any type of person. It has lessons for literally anyone who will sit and watch it.
It basically sums down to, are you a good person? It doesn't depend on if you have loads of money or just enough to get by. It doesn't matter if you have both parents, just one, or they're divorced. What matters most is how you look at situations and how you treat others. You could have everything you've ever wanted handed to you, but if you have a bad outlook on life, you will never be truly happy. Being happy isn't about having everything, like the evil stepsister, Clarissa, seems to believe. Clarissa and her mother, Glynnis, spend the entire movie wanting the social status(and money) they would have by marrying Henry.
Happiness is about appreciating what you have and not worrying about what you don't.
Clarissa was threatened by Daphne in every sort of way, and she let her stand in the way of her happiness. This goes to show that when someone is threatened by you, they have a tendency to try and ruin whatever it is that you are trying to do. Don't let anyone stand in the way of your happiness, just ignore them. You don't have to let anyone bother you by their words, you need to learn how to let what people say go in one ear and right out the other. When you know your worth, no one can take that away from you. Daphne let the fact that she didn't know her father stand in the way of her happiness, which really shouldn't have been the case. Her mom did everything she could to make her happy, but Daphne urged to know her father.
"Getting to know someone because they share the same DNA as you isn't the answer, it's about getting to know yourself."
You don't need the approval of others to be happy, you really only need the approval of yourself. Ultimately, we end up with the predictable happy ending, but that's not what the movie's about. It's all about finding yourself through your trials. It's about letting yourself go and finding out what makes you happy, without sacrificing who you really are. It's about finding true happiness, and that's really what a girl wants.
